Two of Eight Guardians of the World of the Dead. They were part of the parade where the god from the Taoist temple in Pingdong County was visiting the gods in the Cheng long Village temple in Taiwan.

  1. 八家將 (pat-ka-tsiòng), which is derived from Chinese folk religion and mythology, a total of eight generals of God, they are responsible for the capture of ghosts, meaning there to pray for peace, eight generals will face painting is meaningful, if look carefully you can see all kinds of animals totem, It is like turtles, birds and dragon or a tiger, they took the weapons also represent different meaning, which is Taiwan’s traditional religion is very interesting, if you look closely to study.

    • Thank you so much for your invaluable information. It continues my effort to learn about Taiwanese culture and beliefs. I’ll be in Keelung for 25 days beginning tomorrow. That is a different part of Taiwan with fishing fleets and more markets than Yunlin County. Plus there is the beautiful Northern coastal area. I look forward to it. Thanks again.
