This 3’/1m iguana is missing its right front hand. It most have happend quite a while age since it has survived growing to this size. I photographed it in a tree next to where I’m staying in Uvita, Costa Rica.
Once, in Mexico, we had one that size invite himself into our apartment and wander around for a while before heading back outside. It was fun. A real photo op. –Curt
Mainly we were amused and stayed out of its way. He was quite focused. He had seen his reflection in one of our windows and was convinced that his competition was hiding out in our bungalow.
Fascinating photo! What an experience you’re having and getting so many exotic and interesting shots! I’m amazed how well his stump has healed. Would be fun to watch him climb and see how he adapts. Funny how we assume it’s a he!
I’m up just after dawn and I’m on the second floor with a very large porch. I’m up there for an hour watching and listening to the many birds in the area. It’s a rich environment with lots of wildlife.
It seems to have adapted very well to 3 complete sets of claws.
Cool guy. He reminds me of my friend Dave

But it is the survival of the fittest. With only three complete sets of claws it must have been a struggle to survive.
