I photographed this iguana sunning itself in a large fan palm. This seemed like a precarious position to be in. Taken in the yard of the Blue Diamond where I’m staying. Uvita, Costa Rica

Common Tody-Flycatcher: This uncommon flycatcher just caught a flying insect and was trying to sawallow it. It did so but with its back to me. I this bird from the second story at Le Diamante Vert where I’m staying.

Brown Tree Frog: This large 3″ tree frog was in the outdoor shower where I’m staying in Uvita, Costa Rica.

This 3’/1m iguana is missing its right front hand. It most have happend quite a while age since it has survived growing to this size. I photographed it in a tree next to where I’m staying in Uvita, Costa Rica.

Drinking Water

How does a giraffes get the water from it’s mouth to its stomach 10 or more feet away. According to the article, “How Do Giraffes Drink Water” in Inside Science. A biological plunger pump is used. “In the model proposed by the researchers, the giraffe’s lips form one valve of the “pump” while the animal’s epiglottis, located at the back of the mouth, is the other. To start, the giraffe sinks its puckered lips into the water and then pulls back its jaw, allowing water to rush into the mouth while keeping the epiglottis “valve” closed. Next, the giraffe clenches its lips, relaxes the epiglottis, and pumps its jaw so that the captured water is pushed into the esophagus.” Here is the link to the article:

Bringing a Small Fish Home

The osprey parent is bringing a fish for its fledgling to practice carrying. The fish is small complete with its head. My last posting had the fledgling flying above the nest with the fish in its talons.
