The Oriental Magpie (Copsychus caularis) is very territorial. This is particularly true during breeding season from February to September. After fighting for a number of minutes, both birds flew off seemingly unharmed. Cheng long, Kohou Township, Yunlin County, Taiwan. April 24, 2018

This bird revered in ancient Egypt, and associated with the god Thoth, is posing an environmental threat in Taiwan. It escaped from a zoo 20 years ago. The African Sacred Ibis has also been identified as a pest species in France, Italy, Spain, and the United States. The predatory species poses a threat to local species that share a similar biological niche, such as various species of egrets, Herons, and terns. A pair of lions were partially completed by a master carver and he was paid a small amount by the future owner. The owner’s business failed so the master could not be paid to complete the lions. They were moved to this location when someone bought the property where the lions and business were located. Some child asked one of the villagers if the lions were naughty and being punished by facing the wall. In fact unless in front of a temple, or business, lions are not allowed to face outward.
