Montezuma Oropendola

This spectacular large black bird has a song that is some what of a gurgling sound like water being poured from a bottle. This one was flying from one tree to another near where I was staying in Uvita, Costa Rica. You can go to this site and click on listen to hear its song. https://birdsoftheworld.org/bow/species/monoro1/cur/introduction

White Ibis

I took this photo at the entrance to the mangrove swamp in the National Park Marino Ballena. It is about a mile from where I’m staying in Uvita, Costa Rica.

Paled-billed Woodpecker

The beautiful red headed woodpecker was pecking insects from the papaya tree next to where I’m staying at the Green Diamond in Uvita, Costa Risa

Great Curassow

This rare and very large game bird was almost hunted to extinction. I took this early in the morning at the Oro Verde Reserve, Costa Rica where hunting is not allowed.

Boat-Billed Heron

Herons are a stocky medium-sized bird. Their bills are as wide as their heads, and they have large eyes that aid in night-hunting. Their beak is very sensitive, allowing them to feel out prey in murky water. They have a dark crown and flight feathers and a light underbelly and face.
Herons have a specialized downy feather that doesn’t molt and grows continuously throughout the bird’s life. The ends break off as a powder that the heron then uses while preening to waterproof its other feathers. Landing

Osprey landing
This osprey is landing into the wind. By spreading its wings, it creates drag to slow down. Too much drag would make it suddenly drop. So, it opens its wing feathers to allow enough air to pass through to land correctly.

Don’t You Think the Manufacturer of this Safety Cone Did a Good Job in Matching the Color of My Legs?

Tit Mouse

I’ve set up my camera to capture birds as they come to eat. I’m using a cover over my lens to block out any reflection from the window. The lens is about 5 inches from the bird. This creates some depth of field problems.

The African Sacred Ibis (Threskiornis aethiopicus)

This is bird revered in ancient Egypt, and associated with the god Thoth, is posing an environmental threat in Taiwan. It escaped from a zoo 20 years ago. The African Sacred Ibis has also been identified as a pest species in France, Italy, Spain, and the United States. The predatory species poses a threat to local species that share a similar biological niche, such as various species of egrets, Herons, and terns.
